The Planning Division of the Community Development Department handles city planning, also known as urban planning, and is informally divided into two workgroups: Current and Long-range Planning.

Current Planning

Current planning involves review of land use applications and site plans for proposed development, redevelopment, and infill; closest coordination with the Building and Engineering Divisions; and service to:

The prime reference tool is the Tualatin Development Code (TDC), an integrated comprehensive or comp plan and land development code that includes planning districts, which are akin to zoning districts. Refer to further information specific to major current planning topics.

Long-range Planning

Long-range planning participates in regional planning efforts led by the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) and Metro, the Portland metro area regional government, and serves the Transportation Task Force, Tualatin Planning Commission (TPC), and City Council. The comprehensive or comp plan within the Tualatin Development Code (TDC) and concept planning of defined geographic areas are long-range planning tools.
