The purpose of the meetings with business and property owners is to inform sign owners about the proposed amendments to the Tualatin Sign Code and Non-conforming Sign regulations and obtain comments for the City Council to consider at a Work Session in February.
The proposed PTA-08-06 amendments are part of a series of revisions to Tualatin's sign regulations intended to reduce the size of freestanding signs in commercial areas of the city and improve the appearance of signs visible to public streets for citizens and visitors. In June, 2008 the City Council adopted Ordinance #1261-08 removing provisions for a Freeway Oriented Activity Area from the I-5 interchanges and removing the provisions for large, tall freeway freestanding signs as permitted signage. In four Work Sessions between December 8, 2008 and December 14, 2009, the Council reviewed draft revisions to the Sign Code and Non-conforming Sign provisions that would:
- Revise the Sign Regulations to create a Sign Design process and standards that will apply to freestanding monument and pole signs in the CC & CG Planning District.
- Revise the CC & CG Planning District freestanding sign standards in TDC 38.220(1) to add provisions requiring lower-profile monument-style freestanding signs for locations on arterial street frontages and restricting taller pole signs compliant with the proposed Sign Design standards to collector and local commercial streets.
- Revise the Non-conforming Sign provisions of TDC Chapter 35 to require non-conforming freestanding signs in the CC and CG Planning Districts to be removed or replaced within a certain time period. Non-conforming freestanding signs located within 660 ft. of Interstate I-5 will be exempt from the proposed replacement requirements in respect to the Federal Highway Beautification Act.
The amendments are known as Plan Amendment PTA-08-06 and have been reviewed in various draft forms by the Tualatin Planning Advisory Committee as well as the City Council. The Tualatin Chamber of Commerce has participated in Advisory Committee and City Council discussions on the proposed amendments and provided information and comment as a representative of the business community.
Please attend this meeting to give us your feedback on the proposed Sign Code and Non-conforming Sign amendments, or send your questions & comments. Your information and comments will be provided to the City Council.
