Looking for something exciting to do in Tualatin? The City of Tualatin provides high quality, affordable, safe and FUN activities for teens. We have an excellent schedule of upcoming activities.

All teen programs require pre-registration and meet/end at the Van Raden Community Center unless noted!

Red Cross Babysitter Training

Friday, March 12, 10:00am - 4:45pm

Impress the parents you babysit for with the proper credentials! The Red Cross Babysitter Training Course can help you care for children and infants, make good decisions, keep the children you babysit for safe, handle emergencies such as injuries and illness, write resumes and apply for jobs, and much more! This course is designed for ages 11 and up. Bring a sack lunch. Cost $40 resident.$50 non-resident. THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL. CHECK BACK THIS SUMMER FOR ANOTHER OFFERING OF THIS CLASS!

Spring Break Madness!!

Monday, March 22 - Thursday, March 25

9:00am - 4:30pm daily

Is your family taking a "staycation" this spring break? Not sure what you are going to do with your week off? Join the teen program for four days jam-packed with fun! We'll head out for a trip each day to places like the Sherwood Ice Arena, North Clackamas Aquatic Center, and the Oregon Coast, plust hit up the Tualatin Public Library's Bollywood Party! We'll also have plenty more time each day to spend hanging out at Van Raden playing games, making cool crafts, and mixing up tasty snacks! Cost $75 resident/ $93 non-resident. Extended supervision available from 8-9am and 4:30-5:30pm for a fee of $5 per day.

Beat the SAT

Mondays, -March 29-April 26

6:30pm - 8:30pm

This course is specifically designed to give you the leading edge when it comes to taking the SAT! Tuition includes course workbook, all materials and practice tests. Taught by academic coach Elizabeth Petersen. For more information about the course, email gardenwrite@comcast.net. Cost $250 resident/$320 non-resident. Meets at the Van Raden Center.

 

April Activities

Friday Night Ice Skating

Friday, April 2 from 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Looking for a night out? Grab your friends and get to the Sherwood Ice Arena! Take advantage of this great group pricing and remember to bundle up! Price includes admission and skate rental. Cost $8 resident/$10 non-resident. Please check in with the teen program staff at the Ice Arena lobby to get this group pricing. This program meets and ends at the Sherwood Ice Arena.

Outdoor Paintball

Friday, April 16 from 9:00am - 4:30pm

No school! Join us for a day at Splat Action Paintball, Oregon's oldest and largest outdoor paintball facility. Make sure to wear long-sleeved clothing, sturdy shoes, and pack a lunch. Trip fee includes transportation, all equipment, and paint. Extra waiver required. Cost $45 resident/$56 non-resident.

Explore Ape Caves

Saturday, April 17 from 10:00am - 5:00pm

Explore ancient lava tubes deep underground! We'll head up to the Mt. St. Helens area with the professionals at Adventures Without Limits to try some spelunking! Trip fee includes transportation and all safety equipment. Bring a sack lunch. Extra waiver required. Cost $35 resident/$44 non-resident.

Salem Ropes Course

Saturday, April 24 from 9:00pm - 4:00pm

Swing through the trees and challenge yourself to complete the Salem Ropes Course. Working together as a team, we will conquer both low and high ropes challenge elements. A day not to be missed! Trip fee includes transportation, all safety equipment, and instruction by Salem Ropes Course staff. Extra waiver required. Bring a sack lunch. Cost $35 residents/ $43 non-residents.

Oaks Park Roller Skating

Friday, May 7, 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Skate the night away at Oaks Amusement Park! Trip fee includes transportation, admission, and skate rental. Cost $12 resident/$15 non-resident.

Evening Safari

Saturday, May 15, 4:30pm - 9:30pm

Have you ever wondered what the animals do at night? Get a behind-the-scenes peek of the animal kitchen and hospital, plus hands-on animal encounters with trained zoo guides and more! Trip fee includes transportation, zoo tour, and pizza dinner. Cost $35 resident/ $43 non-resident.

Surf Lessons

Saturday, May 22, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Learn to hang ten (or at least try!) with the pros at Cannon Beach Surf! We'll practice our moves on the beach first, then hit the waves! Trip fee includes transportation, surf lesson, board rental, and wetsuit. Bring a sack lunch. Extra waiver required. Cost $50 resident/ $62 non-resident.

Whitewater Rafting

Sunday, May 23, 9:30am - 5:00pm

Brave the rapids! Join us on this all-day whitewater adventure! We'll head out to the Sandy River for some class II rapids on one of the most beautiful sections of the river! Trip fee includes transportation, professional guides, and all safety equipment. Wear a swimsuit (we'll provide wetsuits and neoprene booties to keep warm! Extra waiver required. Cost $45 resident/ $56 non-resident.

 

TEEN PROGRAM INFORMATION

To register for any of these programs, download the liability waiver/registration and medical information forms and return them to the Community Services Department before the registration deadline.

Eligibilty:

Our programs are open to all students currently in 6th-12th grades. Students transitioning from 5th to 6th grade over the summer are also welcome to participate. Priority given to Tualatin youth.

Location:

All programs or activities, unless otherwise stated, will meet/end at the City of Tualatin Van Raden Community Center at 8535 SW Tualatin Rd.

Registration Deadlines:

Registration ends one week before to the activity date, unless otherwise stated.  Programs will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Program registration is complete when payment and all program waivers have been received. If a program is full additional participant names will be put on a wait list and called if a spot becomes available.

Cancellation:

Programs are subject to cancellation due to weather, low enrollment or other reasons outside of our control. If a program is cancelled, we will inform you by phone.

Meals:

Most programs do not provide meals, so pack some food or snacks as appropriate. If provided, the program description will specify.

Refund:

It is our policy to refund 100% of the program fees if cancellation notice is given before the registration deadline ends. We will refund 50% of program fees if cancellation notice is given 24 hours in advance of the schedule program or event.
