Citizen Advisory Committees and Boards

Advisory Committee Application

The City Council and staff welcome citizen involvement and supports advisory committees and boards to provide needed perspectives and advice on specific service areas.

For most positions, no special background or qualifications are needed. We want your enthusiasm, viewpoint, and thoughts. Young people under the age of 18 may serve on all advisory committees and are encouraged to apply. The public is always invited and encouraged to attend all advisory committee meetings.

These advisory committees and boards assist the City Council and staff:

Architectural Review Board

The Architectural Review Board conducts hearings, reviews plans and determines compliance in the following areas: site development, architecture, and landscaping (except single family dwellings). It also assists the City in establishing policies which help implement the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ARB also has three alternate positions and is the only board which requires professional registrations such as a Registered Architect, Registered Landscape Architect and Engineer.

Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee

The Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee was created to encourage greater opportunities for recognition of arts in Tualatin, to stimulate private and public support for programs and activities in the arts, and to strive to ensure excellence in the public arts collection.

Budget Advisory Committee

The Budget Committee is charged with the responsibility of reviewing the City budget, holding public budget hearings, and recommending its adoption by City Council. The City Council and seven citizen appointees make up the committee.

Core Area Parking District Board

The Tualatin Core Area Parking District Board serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council on policy matters affecting the Core Area Parking District. These include location and design of new lots, existing lot improvements, regulations and maintenance, and capital outlays.

Tualatin Library Advisory Committee

The Tualatin Library Advisory Committee reviews, advises, and makes recommendations to the staff and City Council on matters affecting the Tualatin Public Library.

Tualatin Parks Advisory Committee

The Tualatin Parks Advisory Committee reviews, advises and makes recommendations to the staff and City Council on matters affecting public parks and recreational activities. These include immediate and long range planning, land acquisition, development, and recreational programming. It also advises Council on Urban Forestry policy.

Tualatin Planning Advisory Committee

The Tualatin Planning Advisory Committee reviews, advises and makes recommendations to City Council on matters affecting land use planning and the City's Comprehensive Plan. It also serves as the committee for citizen involvement in the Land Conservation and Development Commission planning process.

Juanita Pohl Center Steering Committee

Tualatin Urban Renewal Advisory Committee

The Tualatin Urban Renewal Advisory Committee reviews, advises and makes recommendations to the Tualatin Development Commission on matters pertaining to the Urban Renewal Plans, project plans, or any plan or project implementation proceeding.

Tualatin Youth Advisory Council

The Tualatin Youth Advisory Council advises the Tualatin City Council on issues that affect youth in the community, serves as a communication link for youth to government, business, and entire community on a variety of subjects, identifies and advocates for the needs of youth in our community, identifies and carries out events and activities for the community which are important to youth and creates and fosters cultural relations in the Tualatin community.

The YAC hosts seasonal activities for youth in the Tualatin community, such as the Haunted House, Tualafest or the Crawfish Teen Dance. New YAC members will help in planning and running these events. They can contribute their ideas for improvements to existing programs and help the YAC brainstorm ideas for new events this year.

The YAC also makes monthly presentations to the Tualatin City Council to keep the city officials informed about issues that are important to youth. New members will have the unique opportunity of presenting their ideas to the City Council.

Be aware! Serving as a YAC member is not always easy. It requires a significant time commitment. YAC members are required to attend weekly meetings on Thursday from 6:00 - 7:00pm. YAC members also contribute additional time in preparing for and running events.
