Library Foundation Receives Best Buy Grant

The Tualatin Library Foundation has received a Community Grant in the amount of $4,000 from the Best Buy Children’s Foundation in support of teen gaming and movies at Tualatin Library.

The grant is awarded from the Community Grants program, in partnership with the Tualatin Best Buy store, to support programs that give teens access to opportunities through technology. The grant will be used to buy new audio-visual equipment for the Teen Room, a new gaming system, and video games.

“We are very pleased to be the recipient of this generous donation”, said Wayne Welch, President of the Tualatin Library Foundation. “We have many young adults who are already using our library and attending our programs, and we are thrilled to give those taking part a chance to experience an enhanced gaming experience.”

Interim Library Manager Jerianne Thompson described the library's gaming programs as an opportunity for teens to experience positive social interaction, communal play, and friendly competition, while being exposed to technology. "We give the teens something fun to do and a chance to hang out with each other, which makes them come to the library; while they’re here, we have an opportunity to connect them to library resources and services. We expect the improvements funded by this grant will draw more teens to the library, putting us in a better position to expand our technology-related programs for teens in the future," she said.  

Through the Community Grants Program, each Best Buy territory across the United States annually selects non-profit organizations that apply for grants to support programs and services that provide opportunities for young teens related to education, life skills, leadership skills or relationship development.
