Strolling and Rolling Along the "New" Sagert Street

Tualatin residents of all ages will soon be able to walk or bike more safely all along Sagert Street.  

A series of upgrades up and down the street are planned for 2023. Sidewalk segments and bike lanes will connect the residential neighborhoods east of I-5 with destinations to the west: jobs, parks, the Library, shopping, banks, and public transit. People walking or biking eastward will be able to more safely reach the hospital and medical offices located just across I-5.  

Projects already completed on Sagert Street include: 

• Upgraded sidewalks and buffered bike lanes between Wampanoag Drive and 72nd Avenue, and surrounding the Martinazzi Avenue / Sagert Street intersection 
• Crosswalks with pedestrian-activated flashing beacons at: Atfalati Park, and 68th (coming this summer), 72nd, and 93rd Avenues 

The final link, to be completed this year, will upgrade the Sagert Street bridge over I-5. The existing bridge will be retrofitted to add a protected 8-foot wide path for shared use by people biking and walking on the north side of Sagert Street. (The existing bike lane on the south side will remain.) 

Katie Mangle of Alta Planning + Design, who has been helping the City of Tualatin plan for these projects, says, “People are already using Sagert Street. Now they will be able to do that much more safely.” 

The Sagert Street safety improvements are funded by the $24.8 million transportation bond approved by Tualatin voters in 2018.
