Transportation Projects Completed in 2022 Improve Congestion and Safety

Three important and long-awaited projects were completed in 2022, funded by the Tualatin Moving Forward transportation bond approved by voters in 2018.

We have made it safer and easier to get around at:

• Martinazzi Avenue and Sagert Street: to improve traffic flow, improvements at this intersection included installing traffic signals, new sidewalks and safer crosswalks, and better bike lanes. 
• 95th Avenue and Avery Street (near Tualatin Elementary School): the priority here was providing safe access to the school and reducing cut-through traffic in the neighborhood. The project included intersection upgrades, crosswalks, bike lanes, and better signage along 95th Avenue, Avery and Sagert Streets; and speed humps to calm traffic along 93rd Avenue. 
• Tualatin Road: Sweek Drive to Community Park: improves pedestrian safety and access along Tualatin Road leading to the park. The project includes sidewalk improvements and an upgraded midblock crosswalk with pedestrian-activated flashing beacons. 

Another project expected to be completed this winter is on 65th Avenue, near Meridian Park Hospital. There, a mid-block crosswalk will be installed across this busy street to connect the sidewalk, bus stop, and neighborhoods on the west side with the hospital on the east side. 

Together, these projects represent the three priorities for bond program funding: congestion relief, neighborhood traffic safety, and safe routes to schools and parks. 

With the Tualatin Moving Forward transportation program scheduled to conclude next year in 2023, 23 projects have been completed and another 11 are underway. "The end is in sigh," says Tualatin's Program Director Mike McCarthy, P.E.
