Basalt Creek Parks & Recreation Plan
Basalt Creek Parks & Recreation Plan Status
In early 2021 we began the exciting process to address the parks and recreation needs and desires of the growing south Tualatin community by creating a plan to secure these needs for the future. The City of Tualatin Parks & Recreation Department is proud to announce that with the help of the planning firm MIG the Basalt Creek Parks Plan has been devised.
The plan is a compilation of many months of research, development, and a robust public outreach and engagement process that included thousands of email and social media interactions, which resulted in over 650 people involved in the plan. The planning process included:
- Develop Acquisition Criteria
- Public Outreach & Information
- Analyze Potential Locations
- Market Study
- Develop Preliminary Design Options
- Public Outreach & Engagement
- Refine Park & Trail Design Program
- Draft Basalt Creek Parks & Recreation Plan
- Draft Plan Public Review
A month long public review process of the draft plan resulted in over 200 survey comments, emails and phone comments. The plan was presented to the City Council during the work session on January 10, 2022 and was accepted on January 24, 2022 and will consider adoption in the future.
Project Update and Next Steps
In October 2022 The City of Tualatin Parks & Recreation department acquired parkland for the future community of the Basalt Creek area, thanks mainly to Metro Local Share funds and system development funds from the City. The Parks & Recreation Department will continue to work on implementing the Basalt Creek Parks and Recreation plan and is excited to be working with future community members during engagement opportunities to design and build the future parks and trails.
