Bravery and Friendship

Tualatin Police Department

This little girl was once afraid of police, so her mother scheduled a visit to our police department to give her daughter a chance to meet our officers and teach her that police officers are friendly and here to help.  When she came in for her tour she was nervous and held her stuffed dog close.  But after meeting and chatting with our officers and staff members, you could see a sense of calm come over her.  Toward the end of the tour she was guiding the way and leading the conversation.  We were so proud of how brave and well-behaved she was that we rewarded her with another stuffed dog as a playmate for the one she brought in with her.  She was pretty happy about that!

But the story doesn't end there.  This amazing, brave, happy little girl who brightened our day came back to see us a week later.  She wanted to thank us for spending time with her and tell us that she had decided she wants to be a police officer when she grows up.  And she had a very special dog made for us as her way of thanking us.  "Super Dog" hangs out with us at the police department, watches over us, and reminds us to be brave like that special little girl was that day.
